Kilpatrick’s Publick House Offers Authentic Irish Fare in Downtown Ithaca

[ITHACA, NY] The Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce a special 5:00 PM Ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 16th at Kilpatrick’s Publick House.  This new Irish themed restaurant is located on the ground floor of Seneca Place on the Commons.  The main entrance to Kilpatrick’s Publick House is on Tioga Street where Seneca Place abuts the Verizon building.  Finely detailed improvements to the Tioga Street façade of the building have been underway since late last year.  A similar themed entrance also provides access to the Kilpatrick’s from the building lobby.

“Publick House” is the formal name from which the more familiar, shortened version “Pub” is derived.  Common to Ireland and the United Kingdom where there are more than 60,000 pubs, public houses are also referred to as “locals” since they serve as the focal point or social gathering place for a neighborhood.  The owner or manager of a public house is known as a “publican” or “guv’nor.”  Irish public houses are distinguished from their English counterparts by live music and the fact that they typically bear the name of a current or previous owner.

Kilpatrick’s Publick House will serve lunch, dinner and a late night menu offered in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with Irish music including occasional live entertainment.  The menu boasts modern interpretations of traditional Irish and American favorites featuring steaks and seafood infused with locally grown produce all prepared by Kilpatrick’s culinary team headed by Matthew Emery and Charles Crispell.  A selection of creative vegetarian dishes are also offered on the menu along with “tried and true” items like hamburgers and chicken wings.
