Planning Board approves two residential subdivisions

Journal Staff

ITHACA -- More residential development could be moving into the Town of Ithaca.

The town's Planning Board Tuesday night approved two separate subdivisions that would create six new residential lots on Elm Street Extension on the west side of the town.

In another action, the board approved Cornell University's request to divide and sell a 7.15-acre university-owned parcel just north of Cornell's Lake Source Cooling plant. The parcel is zoned for multiple residences.

Cornell does not need any more approvals from the town to sell the 7.15-acre parcel of land it owns, but any plans for the development of the site would require the Planning Board's approval, Kanter said after the meeting.

Tom LiVigne, manager of operations for Cornell Real Estate, told the board that the land it wants to sell was part of a 13.43-acre parcel that Cornell acquired around 1995 for its Lake Source Cooling project. Cornell has never had plans for the land, he said.

LiVigne said Cornell has a buyer for the land but he declined to identify the person.
