Park readies for new tenants

2 new buildings in Lansing near completion

The 300-acre Cornell Business and Technology Park is a hub of construction, with two new buildings nearing completion.

Within the next two months, the two buildings --which total 80,000 square feet -- will be completed, and their new tenants will have moved in, said John Majeroni, director of real estate for Cornell University and the business park.

Two divisions of multi-national software companies will move into a 40,000-square-foot building at 10 Brown Road, Majeroni said.

Half of the building will be occupied by Pathlight Technologies' successor, Advanced Digital Information Corporation, a leading provider of storage area network (SAN) solutions. Autodesk Inc., a design- and digital-content-creation software company, will occupy the other half of the two-story building.

Bob Arco, management information systems manager for ADIC's Ithaca office, said the company's 8,000-square-foot office at 9 Brown Road is "bursting at the seams."

"We knew we wanted to update and expand the facility, and consolidate our two offices in the county," Arco said, noting that ADIC's administration office is located in Cayuga Heights' Village Green. "We wanted to stay in the business park because we like the area and environment."

Majeroni said he's not certain if a business is lined up to take ADIC's office space.

Kionix Inc., the maker of microscopic mechanical devices, will move into the second two-story building at 36 Thornwood Drive. California-based Calient Networks purchased Kionix in September and has taken over the company's office at 22 Thornwood Drive under the name Calient Optical Components Inc.

Majeroni said the Kionix portion of the business will move into the new 39,470-square-foot building, which will house three sections --offices, a machinery room and a "clean room" laboratory.

More than 230 people will be employed by the three companies in the new buildings. Approximately 1,600 people work in the park's 24 other buildings.

Integrated Acquisition and Development Corp. of Ithaca, developer for both projects, hired Syracuse-based Hayner Hoyt Corporation to build both buildings.

"Many companies in the park are headquartered elsewhere in the U.S. and the world," said Tom Colbert, a managing partner of Integrated Acquisition and Development. "We're really lucky to have them in Tompkins County."

Majeroni said that even with the park's recent additions, "it's really only half full."

He already is working on plans for another building because two park tenants plan to expand.
