 PROJECTS

Why is Cornell involved in real estate development?

The University sponsors real estate development projects in furtherance of its educational objectives. These include:

  • Providing academic and educational support space
  • Acquiring and protecting lands needed for current and future educational needs
  • Keeping Ithaca a great place to live by providing quality jobs, tax revenues, strengthening its economic base and taking a lead role in rational land use planning
  • Promoting the commercialization of Cornell technology
  • Contributing to the University's financial strength

A strong, vibrant Ithaca is very important to Cornell as it:

  • Competes in attracting students
  • Competes in recruiting and retaining faculty and staff
  • Maintains a strong and happy workforce
  • Encourages alumni to visit and develop strong ties to Ithaca and Cornell
  • Promotes the general reputation of the University

Cornell is proud to have played important roles in many major, local real estate projects.

"This building represents a visible and physical demonstration of commitment to this community, and having the university as one of our neighbors downtown will speak loudly and clearly."

Susan Blumenthal, Ithaca Common Council, Sep 21, 2000, speaking of Seneca Place (Ithaca Journal)
